A Roman Tomb on the Via Appia.

Pencil on cream laid paper. 460x320 mm; 18 1/8x12 5/8 inches. Signed (?) in pencil, lower right recto.

Volaire, who was a student of Joseph Vernet, did much of his work in the Roman campagna and around Naples.

With--P. COURTOIS (French, early 19th-century). River Landscape with a Woman and Child Walking on a Path, pencil on cream wove paper. 265x400 mm; 10 1/2x15 3/4 inches. Signed in pencil, lower right recto.
