Lot 71: Pieter Casteels II (c. 1650- after 1674 Antwerp?)

A capriccio of a northern harbour, with townsfolk, merchants, stevedores and sailors on the quays and in boats oil on panel 11 1/8 x 15 7/8 in. (28.5 x 40.3 cm) NOTES Pieter Casteels II followed his father in becoming a master of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1673/4. Unlike his father he specialised in marine and seaport scenes, influenced by the work of Frans Boudewijns, Pieter Bout and Mattijs Schoevaerdts, of which this picture is typical.
