Pieter Crijnse Volmarijn (Circa 1604-1645). A Large 17th Century Oil on Canvas of A mythological scene with Neptune reclining in his chariot surrounded by symbolic figures, 41 ins x 57 cms (104 cms x 145 cms). Note: Recorded paintings by Volmarijn are scarce worldwide, in the past unsigned works of his had been wrongly attributed to Jacob Jordaens (1593-1698) and also to Ruebens (17th Century). This painting however bears his monogram, we know of only two other paintings that are monogrammed and only one that is fully signed. The painting is crammed full of symbolism and is typical of his work.
