Literature

R.A. d'Hulst, 'Pieter Crijnse Volmarijn', Mededelingen van de Koninklijke vlaamse Academie voor Wetenschappen, Letteren en Schone Kunsten van België, XXXII, 1970, p. 1ff.

Notes

Pieter Crijnse Volmarijn, born in Rotterdam, was a student of Hendrik Maertensz. Sorgh, his uncle. Though Sorgh primarily painted peasant interiors in the tradition of Teniers and Brouwer, Volmarijn was more greatly influenced by Rubens, as evidenced by the present modello with its loose brushwork and Rubensian palette.
