NOTE

The candlestick depicted in the present painting is modeled after a pair of candlesticks by Anthony Nelme, in the collection of the Bank of England. Nelme headed one of the largest workshops of late 17th Century London. He produced a wide range of wares, from elaborate ceremonial pieces to objects used for domestic purposes. This same candlestick appears in other still lifes by Roestraeten, such as in a work now in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (inv. nr. St. 131).
