NOTE

Having trained with Frans Snyders in Antwerp, Pieter van Boucle settled in Paris where he established his reputation as a gifted still-life painter. In this painting he combines a still life of fruit in a basket, which draws inspiration from his northern counterparts Snyders and Adrian van Utrecht, whilst the carpet is a motif more typical of his French contemporary Jacques Hupin.

The attribution has been endorsed by M. Fabrice Faré.
