Description

PIRRMANGKA NAPANANGKA CIRCA 1946-2001 UNTITLED 2000 168 by 46 cm Synthetic polymer paint on linen Bears artist's name, size and Papunya Tula Artists catalogue number PN0010128 on the reverse Provenance: Painted in 2000 for Papunya Tula Artists, Alice Springs Private collection, Alice Springs This painting is sold with an accompanying Papunya Tula Artists certificate that reads: 'This painting depicts designs associated with the travels of an old woman, Kutungka Napanangka, from the west. She visited the soakage water site of Tjintjintjin which is west of Mantati outstation, approximately seventy kilometres west of the Kintore Community. The circles represent a series of small rockholes at the site which contain temporary water after rain. Kutungka then travelled further east to Muruntji, south-west of Mt. Leibig. At Muruntji she was accosted by a group of boys, represented by the four "U" shapes. She caught and killed them and carried them in a coolamon on her head before eating them.'
