Description

Views of Venice. Circa 1860. 33 large-format albumen prints. Each circa 32 x 26 cm and 26 x 32 cm. Each mounted to board (some foxing/soiling), with photographer's blind stamp, address Riva dei Schiavoni Venezia below the image on the mount; 17 with printed text on mount verso. The photographer Carlo Ponti was also a publisher who worked together with other photographers such as Domenico Bresolin, Giuseppe Beniamino Coen, Fortunato Antonio Perini and Carlo Naya, whose photos he often published under his own name, helping him attain a position as the leading photographer in Venice. - Several with foxing spots, especially in sky area, some light surface scuff marks, otherwise with a strong violet-brown tone and in good to very good condition.
