THE PROPERTY OF A LADY OF TITLE (LOTS 46-68)

The sitter was the daughter of Arthur Kaye, Bt. She firstly married George Legge, Viscount Lewisham (1705-1732), and secondly Francis, 3rd Lord Guilford and 7th Lord North, later 1st Earl of Guilford, in 1736 after the death of his first wife, Lady Lucy Montagu, in 1734 (see lot 56). She became stepmother to Frederick, Lord North, 2nd Earl of Guilford, K.G. (1732-1793; see lot 60). Following her death in 1745, Francis North married thirdly Katherine, Countess of Rockingham (d. 1766), the widow of Lewis Watson, 2nd Earl of Rockingham (for her portrait, see lot 57).
