Potter (Charles, fl. 1867-1892). Classical ruins with figures on a path, Southern Italy, watercolour and gouache, signed, 59 x 89.5 cm (23.25 x 35.25 ins), framed and glazed A large-scale panoramic landscape, probably showing monuments on the Appian Way, outside Rome, with the silhouette of St. Peter's in the distance. Charles Potter was a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester, who lived in Oldham and Tallybont, Conwy, and exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere from 1867 to 1892, with works including The Grave of Taliesin, The Welsh Bard, 1871, Street of the Tombs, Pompeii, 1874, Pass of Llanberris, First Snow, Changing Pastures, etc. (1)
