Item Overview

Description

527. (TYRONE POWER) (1914-1958) American film star, known for his swashbuckling roles in such films as The Mask of Zorro. A great archive of over 95 original telegrams spanning the decades from the 1940s to the 1960s, mostly sent by Power with also many by his wife Annabella to noted Hollywood film editor J. Watson Webb. Webb (1916-2000), a close friend of Power, is best known for his work on such films as "Broken Arrow", "Kiss of Death", "Cheaper by the Dozen", and "Sentimental Journey". Most of the telegrams send thanks and have other social content, in very small part: "...Were received by Betty Mademoiselle a covey of servants and two strange men on their way to the dogs...We are having a wonderful time don't think we will ever leave Colorado...Shelbourne as beautiful as you say and Electra even more attractive and charming than I thought...SO happy to have your air raid wardens partner with me stop adored your long letter...Arrived safely sorry I missed the Red Cross course last night but it must have been a joy...Each day becomes increasingly hard to leave... we are loving our apartment so...saw your mother and she couldn't be sweeter. New York has never been snugger 80% due to you 10% due to [Lionel] Barrymore and 10% we'll tell you about Wednesday...Madame blue Chevrolet send you greetings...Just talked to Ma and am terribly excited by possible future plans..." Plus sympathy telegrams on the death of Webb's mother. Along with original telegrams sent to Webb by other Hollywood greats, including Ray Milland, Claudette Colbert, Rory Calhoun, Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood, Jim Aubrey and Phyllis Thaxter, and Tab Hunter. A fascinating archive of material detailing the Powers' social life. Overall very good condition, and certainly worthy of further research. $400-600
