Lot 235: Prudent Louis Leray Painting

Prudent Louis Leray (1820-1879) painting in original gilded wood frame, shadowboxed behind glass. The work depicts a young aristocratic couple in their drawing room with their young son and his jack-in-the-box. This is the most interesting subject matter from this well-respected artist we have seen come to the block in many years. Circa 1870.

Very good; some fine alligatoring; minor wear, as expected, to outer edges under frame. On the frame, there are a few small sections of bead surface decoration missing. The frame appears to have been regilded at some point and now needs minor touchup.
