Lot 370: PRUSSIAN MILITARY OFFICER PORTRAIT PAINTING

A PORTRAIT OF AN OFFICER OF THE PRUSSIAN LEIB GARDE HUSSAR, BY CONRAD FREYBERG (GERMAN 1842-1915) DATED 1888. The finely executed oil on canvas portrait depicting an unknown Lt. Colonel in the uniform of the elite cavalry unit the Life Garde Hussar Regiment. Among the many awards displayed are the Commanders Cross of the Order of Johanniter, the Commander's Cross of the House and Merit Order of Peter Frederick Louis, the Badge and Grand Cross of the Ottoman Order of Medjidjie, the Iron Cross 2nd class, the Order of the Red Eagle and the insignia of a Knight of the Order of Malta. Signed upper right "C. Freyberg" and dated 1888. 31 inches x 25 inches (78.7 x 63.5 cm).
