Item Overview

Description

RADA Vlastimil (5. 4. 1895 Ceske Budejovice - 22. 12. 1962 Prague) Winter path Lithograph printed in colours on paper, 260 x 445 mm, mounted, undated, signed lower right, numbered 3/500, ELK blind stamp lower left. Czech painter and illustrator, he studied under J. Preisler, M. Svabinsky and J. Stursa at the Academy of Arts in Prague, where he was appointed professor in 1946. He was a member of the Umelecka beseda and had a strong influence on the development of Czech landscape painting. His landscapes are often enlivened with figures. He is chiefly known for his book illustrations, in which he focused on the narrative and grotesque features. The expressiveness of his drawings brings him close to A. Kubin.
