1955 Oil on Canvas Portrait of Private Sterling E. Westray, Pittsburgh by Raymond K. Perry (1876-1970). The portrait was shown in the 1956 Salmagundi Club Exhibition and still has the label en verso. In the original black wood frame. In frame measures 21 1/4"x25"x1". Weight 5 pds. Raymond Perry studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the New York Academy of Fine Arts. He was a Golden Age artist who began working for National Allied Publications, the precursor to DC comics, in the 1930s and went on to work on titles such as Batman, Adventure Comics, and Action Comics. He was art editor for the National Comics Publications, Inc. He also designed windows for churches and libraries in Pennsylvania. He also was noted for his portraits. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society, The Salmagundi Club and the Montclair Art Museum. Among his works are the windows of St. Andres's Church, Pittsburgh, and the Memorial Library, Hanover, Pennsylvania., as well as portraits which hang in the Seventh Regiment Armory and Frances Tavern in New York and the Poe Cottage in Philadelphia.
