Emma Cecilia Buchan Callander (later Mrs J. A. Gayer) (1842-1920), wearing white dress with lace trim and gold waistband, gold pendent earring, braided gold headband and cape edged in blue ribbon, she holds a book in her left hand, red curtain and pillar background.
Set in the converted base of a red leather travelling case with ormolu slip.

Provenance: By family descent from Isabella Callandar to her nephew, thence to his stepson
