Description

Reitzel, Marques E California (1896-1963) SUMMER LANDSCAPE oil on board, framed signed: lower right, Reitzel H10 3/4" W12 1/2" *Artist biography: Marques Reitzel was a painter, illustrator, etcher born in Fulton, Indiana on March 13, 1896. After serving in WWI, Reitzel studied at the AIC and then earned a PhD at Ohio State University. He moved to California in 1938 to establish the art department at San Jose State College and was its director until retirement in 1956. His final years were spent on a ranch near Pescadero, CA where he conducted a summer art school. Reitzel died at San Mateo Hospital on Dec. 26, 1963. His work includes landscapes and seascapes.
