Richard Caulfield Orpen RHA (1863-1938) STUDY OF MEN IN A PUBLIC HOUSE signed in monogram lower left watercolour over pencil 28 by 38cm., 11 by 15in. Brother of Sir William Orpen, Richard Orpen was both an artist and architect. He excelled particularly in watercolour as well as cartooning and caricature, and exhibited with both the WCSI and the Black and White Artists' Society of Ireland. He also often collaborated with Percy French in putting on stage entertainments, Orpen executing lightning sketches and caricatures with great ease and affable charm.
