*Richard Chopping (1917 - 2008), watercolour - Artichokes, 26cm x 26cm, presented in original glazed box frame. Provenance: Purchased from the artist, subsequently borrowed back for Richard Chopping's joint exhibition with Denis Wirth-Miller at The Minories, Colchester, 6th April - 25th April 1959. The lot is accompanied by the Exhibition catalogue and a letter from the artist requesting the loan. The letter reads...'I can't remember if we told you, but we have promised to have an exhibition together in The Minories, Colchester, opening on April 4th. Naturally, I hoped to be able to paint enough for it, but I see now that I am not going to have enough and am therefore forced to borrow. What about yours? Would you lend it please'
