Description

Trees in Hyde Park one inscribed 'Hyde Park' (lower centre) one pencil, pen and brown ink and watercolour, one pencil, pen and brown and black ink and brown wash, heightened with white 8 x 103/4 in. (20.4 x 27.4 cm.); and 71/4 x 11 in. (18.4 x 28 cm.) (2) NOTES Best known for his sculptures, Lucas was born in Salisbury on 24 October and joined the Royal Academy Schools in 1828. His 1845 model of the Parthenon, in its original state, was purchased by the Trustees of the British Museum and his wax relief of Leda and the Swan is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Lucas exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1829-1859 and at the Great Exhibition of 1851. His statues include Dr. Johnson, Sir Richard Colt Hoare and Isaac Watts.
