Item Overview

Description

RICHARD KNECHT (1887-?)
Hexen-Sabbat.
Knecht connects with his playfully demonic side in this poster for a midwinter student soiree with ghoulish abandon. The German word 'hexensabbat' translates as 'esbat,' which is a meeting of a coven of witches. And though this confederation of prancing specters certainly seems harmless enough, it's a pretty decent bet that all those in attendance had one hell of a time. A producer of very few posters, Knecht was a sculptor and painter who studied in both Munich and Stuttgart. His works were shown in the 1914 Munich Secession exhibition. Rare!
