Description

sculpture, height 9 3/4 in. (24.8 cm). Condition: Minor wear to surface. N.B. According to The Chronicle of the Horse, Vol. XLVII, NO. 8, Richardson White "was born in 1904 at Holly Hill Farm in Cohasset, Massachusetts. (He) was surrounded by horses in his youth and was involved in foxhunting, steeplechasing, and flat racing. He lives there now and has his studio surrounded by stables, paddock area, and grazing horses. His interest in sculpture, gradually becoming a specialization in horses, began after his graduation from Harvard University in 1927, when he joined the famous Boston sculptor, the late Joseph Colletti, an association that lasted several years." This piece was awarded The National Sculpture Society's Dr. Maurice Hexter Prize in 1976.
