Description

This outstanding folio lithograph is from the exceptionally rare work of Antoine Risso's Mollusques Cephalopodes vivants observes dans la dans le parage mediterraneen du comte de Nice. The work was published posthumously in Nice in 1854. There is very little information to be found on the work or publication.

Joseph Antoine Risso (1777-1845) was a pharmacist, botanist and zoologist from Nice. He published studies mostly on the flora and fauna of the Nice region. Risso's dolphin was also named after him.
