Robert Barry, American b.1936- Untitled, Come on..Impossible..Remember.."; 1987, published by Imschoot, Belgium, 1987, off-set lithograph, book, signed and dated 1988, and dedicated in ink, 21x15cm, (book) Note: Robert Barry's work deals with escaping the known physical limits of the art object in order to express the unknown or unperceived. A graduate of the Hunter College, he studied there under artists William Baziotes and Robert Motherwell, notable works from Barry's early period include Carrier Wave, in which Barry used the carrier waves of a radio station for a prescribed length of time "not as a means of transmitting information, but rather as an object.", Radiation Piece, and Inert Gas Piece, in which Barry opened various bottles inert gases in different settings before groups of spectators, such as a vial of helium released in a desert.
