Playing with the Kitten signed 'Robert Collinson' (lower right) oil on canvas 191/2 x 271/4 in. (49.5 x 68.9 cm.) PROVENANCE Anon. sale, Christie's, London, 14 February 1986, lot 149. with Christopher Wood, London, from whom acquired by the present owner in 1986. NOTES Collinson was a genre painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1858 and 1890 as well as the British Institution and Suffolk Street. The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, contains his 1864 RA exhibit Ordered on Foreign Service. His wife was a flower painter who also exhibited at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street.
