Robert Stewart Sherriffs, British, Illustrator, 1906-1960- "Jonah And The Whale, Westminster (theatre) 1932"; pen, brush and black ink, on blue grey paper, original illustration, signed and captioned, dated 1932, 36x52: Caricatures in Roman and Greek costume; original illustration in pen and black ink, published in the Sketch for the Illustrated London News, circa 1930's, old copyright stamp verso: together with eight other mostly humorous illustrations by Sherriffs, published in the Sketch magazine, all circa 1930's, to include "Glen Bryan Shaw"; original caricature, pen and black ink, signed: "Eva Flora Robson..."; pen and black ink heightened with white, inscribed, and other similar examples, (8) (unframed) Note: The Sketch was a British illustrated newspaper, which focused on High society and the aristocracy It ran for 2,989 issues between February 1, 1893 and June 17, 1959. It was published by the Illustrated London News Company and was primarily a society magazine with regular features on royalty and the aristocracy, theatre, cinema and art studies. It had a high photographic content with many studies of society ladies and their children as well as regular layouts of point to point racing meetings and other similar events.
