Ferdinand (1793-1875), Emperor of Austria 1835-1848, in white coat with gold-embroidered collar and black stock, wearing the jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece suspended from a red ribbon about his neck, the sash and breast-star of the Imperial Austrian Order of Maria Theresa, the breast-stars of the Imperial Austrian Orders of St. Stephen, Leopold and the Iron Crown (cracked)

Artist or Maker

Notes

Ferdinand, son of Emperor Francis II of Austria and his second wife, succeeded his father as Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria in 1835 and abdicated in 1848 in favour of his nephew, Francis-Joseph. He married in 1831, Princess Anna of Savoy, daughter of King Victor Emmanuel of Sardinia, but died without issue.
A similar miniature by Adolf Theer is illustrated in H. Fuchs, Die Österreichische Bildnisminiatur, Vienna, 1982, II, p. 130, no. 20.
