Item Overview

Description

Rochers de Naye.
HERBERT BERTHOLD LIBISZEWSKI (1897-1985)
Saeuberlin & Pfeiffer, Vevey
Cond A-/Slight tears and stains at edges. Framed.
Rochers de Naye is a mountain in the Bernese Alps above Montreux, from where the Chemin de Fer Montreux-Glion-Rochers-de-Naye-an electric rack and pinion railway that links the places mentioned in its title-leads to its peak. Rather than recreate the mountain or the train, Libiszewski smartly chooses to trot out a welcoming blonde skier as a calling card for the Swiss transport line with a chilling view of the valley and the French Alps behind her. After studies in Germany and Switzerland, Libiszewski moved to Paris in 1921 where he worked as a fashion designer, illustrator and display decorator. He returned to his native Switzerland in 1941.
ca. 1943.
