Item Overview

Description

Group of figures made of white, glazed porcelain by the Nymphenburg manufactory. Ancient style depiction of a youth and a girl at the grain harvest. Stamped on the base with the model number "851 -1", a diamond-shaped shield, and green underglaze manufactory mark. One foot with a crack, lightly knocked, especially the tip of the grain bundle, otherwise an excellently preserved figural group. Extremely rare. Height ca. 32 cm, length 38 cm.
The four centrepieces "Spring", "Summer", "Autumn" and "Winter", as well as a few single figures were manufactured in 1939 for the Reich Foreign Ministry. Later the order was cancelled at the request of Mrs. Ribbentrop, the figures thus becoming available for public purchase. Cf. Alfred Ziffer, Nymphenburger Moderne, p. 389.
The Salzburg sculptor Roland von Bohr mostly created larger than life-sized sculptures.
