Lot 233: Rolf Hauenstein, Lithograph, ‘Tangram’, Switzerland, 1992

This lithograph in colors by Rolf Hauenstein was made in 1992 as an edition of 200 menus for the Italian Restaurant Baratella in St. Gallen. Presumably it is one of the seven artist’s copies. Depicted are graphic fragments of texts and symbols that shape an image world, in which the artist is looking for combining gaps with sense and structure.

At the lower right the lithograph is signed and dated ‘Rolf Hauenstein 92’ in white. At the lower left the dedication ‘Für Josef’ [for Josef] in chalk is visible. The work is in a very good condition. The sheet encompassing size is 50 x 44 cm.

Rolf Hauenstein was born in 1951 in Amriswil, Switzerland. His works mirror personal experiences, memories and everyday images - but not in an illustrative way. Even though he did execute some works on canvas, he intensively focused on etchings for the last couple of years. Here, he is not so much interested in their serial reproduction, yet in shifting and breaking this technique. (nlu)
