The beauty of Rosid's work can be said to be summed up in one special, significant moment. The black and white treatment of his canvas likens it to a black and white photograph immortalising a particular time, space and emotion. His works almost always involve the human factor, like in the present work Pilot, adopting that photographic feel of capturing people. Pilot wears its emotions on its sleeves, the subject in obvious jubilation in anticipation of the flight and what lies beyond. The viewer catches a glimpse of this appealing horizon, which is the only coloured area of the work, giving quick hint of the yellow aeroplane on the reflection of the goggles. The artist seizes this frame and practically etches this memory onto the canvas. Upon closer inspection, Rosid's Pilot is meticulously marked with minute pencil strokes, committing to memory the cheerful disposition of the subject and more importantly encapsulating the exclusivity of that instant.
