Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone signed and dated 'Rudolf Cronau 82' (lower left) and inscribed with title and numbered '61-44' (lower right) ink and wash on paper heightened with white 101/2 x 161/2 in. EXHIBITION Cody, Wyoming, Buffalo Bill Historical Center, The Rocky Mountains: A Vision for Artists in the 19th Century, June-September 1983 Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix Art Museum, Beyond the Endless River, n.d., no. 67 NOTES A striking perspective of the Mammoth Hot Springs, this work displays the awesome beauty of these natural springs, combined with the excitement of the explorer's discovery. This work, along with Giant Cactus in the Gila Desert (lot 56), was executed on Cronau's second trip to the western territories during the summer and fall of 1882.
