Schweinitz was a Berlin-based sculptor who studied under H. Schievelbein at the Berlin Academy before travelling to Paris, Copenhagen and Italy to complete his studies. He often collaborated on architectural projects such as the Nationalgalerie and Roten Rathaus, as well as further afield on the equestrian monument to Friedrich Wilhelm III in Cologne and reliefs for the Rathaus in Bremen. His masterpiece is the 1889 memorial to the Riedel family in St. Georges Church, Berlin. His large 155cm. high marble figure of a Young Arabian Dancer dated 1884 was sold in these rooms as lot 314, 6th June 1984 and the Alte Galerie in Berlin has his 1881 group of Der gefährdete Amor (Love in Danger).
