Samuel Cousins RA 1801-1887- Squirrels; stipple-engraving with extensive roulette and rocker work, published 1865 by Henry Graves, London, signed by the artist, in a good plain moulded ebonised frame, 68x53cm: together with other 19/20th century prints and photograures by and after various hands to include "The Surrender of Napoleon to Great Britain; A Misty Morning; A September Morning" and others, all in good glazed frames, (a lot) Note: Cousins was preeminently the engraver of Sir Thomas Lawrence, his contemporary. During his apprenticeship to S. W. Reynolds he engraved over three hundred and sixty mezzotints illustrating the works of Sir Joshua Reynolds which Reynolds issued in his own name. One of his finest works after Lawrence is Lady Acland and her Sons, Pope Pius VII and Master Lambton, like Richard Earlom, Cousins combined the the distinguishing characteristics of the engravers work using all the techniques at his disposal to create the brilliancy and effect that correspond exactly with similar qualities rendered by the painter.
