The rare trade label on the reverse of the present lot instructs the owner to hold the wax at a specific angle, in order to view the profile at its best advantage.
Ludivina, daughter of Thomas Loughman and Philidelphia (née Fergusson of Craigdarroch), married 13th September, 1791, Charles Granville Stuart Menteath of Closeburn (1769-1852), who was created a baronet in 1838. The surname Menteith appears in three spellings, Menteth, Menteith and Menteath.
