AUTOGRAPH WORKING MANUSCRIPT OF PART OF THE "VARIATIONS ON A FRENCH SONG", FOR PIANO FOUR HANDS, D.624

being part of the eighth and final variation ["Più mosso, Tempo di Marcia"], with some differences from the published version, written in brown-black ink on three systems per page, each of four staves, with some alterations and corrections, comprising some thirty bars music in all

NOTE

Schubert's Variationen über ein französisches Lied Op.10, were published by Cappi & Diabelli in 1822, with a dedication to Beethoven. The text of this working draft diverges from the published version, in the fourth and tenth bars of the first piano part and in the twenty-fifth & twenty-sixth bar of the second piano part.

The autograph manuscript was dispersed, with some leaves being lost: others now survive at the Sibley Music Library in Rochester, the Bibliotheque nationale, the Pushkin House in Leningrad, and elsewhere.
