Signed and dated bottom right: F.(lig.)Schubert fecit 1833 Münch. Oil on canvas. 149 x 216cm. Framed. Provenance: - Kammerherr v. Berenhorst, Dessau; - Private Collection, Berlin. Literature: Boetticher, Malerwerke des 19.Jh. II/2, p. 686, No.3 The preliminary sketch for the work at hand recieved in 1832 the "Concurrenzpreis" from the Art Association of Saxony. In 1834 J.Thäter created a copper etching for the "Sächsische Bilderchronik".The history painter and etcher Franz August Schubert was a student of the Dessauer court painter Beck and C.W. Kolbe as well as P.Cornelius and J. Schnorr von Carolsfeld in München. After his residence in Rome from 1834 until 1841 he published in 1842 etchingsafter the frescos of Farnesina.
