Elaborately matted, framed and glazed, mounted with a small contemporary portrait photograph of Schumann.Schumann's relationship with Brahms was so close that it has been described as bordering on a platonic love affair. Robert Schumann was 9 years her elder, and when he was confined to an asylum for the last two years of his life following a suicide attempt, Brahms and other musicians kept her constantly occupied with music to distract her from her husband's tragic circumstances. Their correspondence has proven a valuable resource for biographers of both musicians.
