Lot 74: Sigrid Kopfermann, Kleiner Bergfluß, Oil, presumably 1976

One of several night images that Kopfermann has painted in a small mountain village in the French Alpes Maritimes. Kopfermann was a member of the Darmstadt Secession and devoted herself repeatedly to the subject of landscape. The motif exists in many variations, only the format is rarely found in the artist’s oeuvre.

Condition:
The paint surface shows minor rubbing, especially to the margins. No evidence of retouching under UV light. The frame has minor traces from use.

Sigrid Kopfermann (1923-2011)
Sigrid Kopfermann was born in 1923 in Berlin. Her mother was the daughter of Otto Lilienthal. She studied at the Art Academy in Berlin. Her works are in the possession of numerous public collections, museums, ministries, administrations, and schools. Kopfermann married Otto Fuhrman in 1965 and died in 2011 in Düsseldorf. The Kopfermann Fuhrmann Foundation was established in Düsseldorf in her honor. (cko)
