Description

(American 1886 - 1937) Eerie oil on canvas depicting a pirate's skull peeping out from an old chest in a dusty clattered room. Signed 'Simon Harmon Vedder' LR Also John B. Smith 117 Hempstead Road NW London stamped to verso. SIZE: 21" x 14 1/2" overall 27" x 20" CONDITION: Very good, housed in contemporary gilt wood frame. Painting appears to be professionally cleaned at some point SHIPPING: Oversize BIO: Vedder's painting skills were honed in the most noted art academies in the United States and Europe. He studied art in New York at the Metropolitan Museum School, and in Paris at the Académie Julian and École des Beaux-Arts & also resided in England. Besides painting original oils such as the present example, Vedder was known for his work as an illustrator for such noted publications as the 1922 edition of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe and The Talisman by Sir Walter Scott. His works have been exhibited in museums & galleries worldwide.

All payments are due after fall of the hammer. Late payments are subject to fees and penalties at the discretion of the Auction House. Payments unpaid or late will result in the account being sent to a collections agency. This can affect your overall credit scores for up to 7 years. Your bidder registration has been researched before approval for bidding at auction. The card provided on file was verified for identity purposes prior to approval. Lastly, chargebacks will be not accepted for any reason or on any purchase

Bidders who bid from off site and are not present at the live auction or preview understand and acknowledge that they may not be able to inspect an item as well as if they examined it in person. It is the Bidders responsibility to determine condition, age, genuineness, value or any other determinative factor. Midnight Sun Antique Auction Co. shall endeavor to describe in detail each item and any pertinent information about it. Midnight Sun Antique Auction Co. will not be responsible for any errors or omissions in the description of the merchandise unless it is a material and intentional misrepresentation of the item itself. Bidders agrees that everything is sold "as is" and that they may not return any item they purchase. Midnight Sun Antique Auction Co. is providing Internet pre-auction and live bidding as a service to Bidder. Bidder acknowledges and understands that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Bidders who leave absentee bids acknowledge that a maximum bid does not guarantee a winning bid. Under no circumstances shall Bidder have any kind of claim against Midnight Sun Antique Auction Co. or anyone else if the Internet service fails to work correctly before or during the live auction. Midnight Sun Antique Auction Co. reserves the right to withdraw or re-catalog items in this auction
All items will be sold in order of Lot Number. No Lot Number may be transferred to another Buyer

Bidders are solely responsible for their winning items once the Auctioneer declares them "sold" . If the occasion arises, the Auctioneer may use his/her discretion and "pass" on an item if he/she feels an item has not received an adequate bid. We, as the Agent for the consignors, must also protect their interests. Consignors are not allowed to bid on their own property.

Midnight Sun Antique Auction Company reserves the right to withdraw any item at any time before the Sale or to reject a bid from any source from any bidders at any time.

Payment

All purchases are to be paid for at the end of the Sale. We accept Visa / Mastercard / Discover/Amex, Paypal. Successful bidders can pay invoice online received after auction. Online bidders will pay 20% Buyer's premium in addition to hammer price as stipulated in the online terms and total payment. Items are packed & shipped once shipping fees are fully paid. If we do not received payment within 4 days, we will attempt to charge card on file or contact you. Late payments will be accepted at the descretion of the Auction House.

Online bidder shipping fees will be included on invoice unless winning item(s) oversizes, multiple or shipped International. In this case, shipping will be paid separately and notified of total amount. Third Party Buyers will be responsible for payment of total invoice.

Sales Tax California Residents only

For U.S. California resident bidders only. We are required by law to collect California Sales Tax which will be added to the total invoice (as of 1/2017 is 8.75 %) unless items are being purchased from out of the State of California. Resale exemption forms must be completed or Seller's permit and number must be submitted while registering or emailed for California residents requesting Sales Tax exemption.
