SIR FREDERICK GRANT BANTING 1891 - 1941 Dundas Harbour oil on panel signed and on verso titled, dated 1:00 am, aug 3, 1927 and inscribed Lat about 25 [degrees] N. 7.75 x 10.5 in 19.7 x 26.7 cm Estate of the Artist Lady Henrietta Banting, Toronto Hart House, University of Toronto, Exhibition of Paintings by the Late Sir Frederick Banting, February 13 - March 1, 1943 Sir Frederick Banting was famous as the doctor who, along with Dr. Charles Best, discovered insulin. In 1923, he shared the Nobel Prize for medicine with Dr. J.J.R. MacLeod for this discovery. Banting was also an accomplished painter who accompanied A.Y. Jackson on sketching trips along the St. Lawrence River and the Arctic, sharing Jackson's love for the rugged Canadian landscape. He was also a friend of Lawren Harris, and was a popular member of Toronto's Arts and Letters Club.
