Sir Frederick William Burton RHA RWS (1816-1900) Portrait of Crofton Vandeleur and his Mother Watercolour, 66 x 46cm (26 x 18"), shaped Signed with monogram and dated 1851 Crofton Vandeleur of Kilrush, Co. Clare was the eldest son of John Vandeleur and his wife Frances, daughter of John Ormsby of Cloghans, Co. Mayo who is depicted here with her son, their heir. Crofton, whose grandfather Rev. John Vandeleur seated himself at Kilrush in 1687 and married Elizabeth Crofton of Inchirourke, Co. Limerick, married Alice Burton with whom he had six sons and four daughters.
