Sir Joseph Noel Paton RSA (1821-1901) ''Odyssey V, Ulysses restrained by Circe'' Inscribed, extensively inscribed on various exhibition labels verso, pencil drawing on three joined pieces of paper, circular, 21.5cm diameter; provenance: Abbott & Holder Ltd, 30 Museum Street, London, and the artist's family also exhibited: The Maas Gallery Ltd, 15a Clifford Street, London, stock no.MG13772; And a further portrait study of the artist as a young man, seated wearing Victorian dress and sideburns, inscribed personally to Lady Maitland with the compliments of J Noel Paton and dated April 1848, initialled and dated 1848, also initialled and dated July 1846 and inscribed on an exhibition label verso, pencil drawing with shaped cut corners, 26cm by 21cm overall, provenance: Abbott & Holder Ltd (as above) and numbered 62498, the original price of £400 and the stock no.62498 (2)
