Sir Robert Ker Porter (British, 1777-1842) Mother and Child frightened by a Storm pen and grey wash 12 x 7cm Provenance: Christie's sale, Brown Collection, 7 June 1869 Christie's, London, Sale, 2 August 1977, lot 203 Sir Robert Ker Porter was a wealthy traveller, explorer, ambassador, author and painter who was married to a Russian princess. He trained at the Royal Academy Schools. He was knighted by the Prince Regent in 1813. In 1817 he travelled to Persia by way of St Petersburg and the Caucasus, returning by way of Baghdad and western Asia Minor
