Sir William Cornelius Van Horne 1843 - 1915 oil on canvas Passamaquoddy Bay A03F-E01011-031 42 x 70in 106.7 x 177.8 centimeters signed and dated 1910 William Van Horne was the general manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1881, and oversaw the building of the railway across Canada until it was completed in Vancouver in 1885. By 1888 he was President of the CPR, eventually becoming Chairman of the Board. In 1999 he was posthumously inducted into the North America Railway Hall of Fame. Van Horne's sought-after paintings are rare to the market, particularly works of this large scale.
