Notes

Painted in 2007.
Smadar Eliasaf was born in Haifa in 1952. She studied at the Art Teachers Training College, Ramat Hasharon and served on the faculty of Hamidrasha School of Art at Beit Berl College for many years. Gideon Ofrat singles her out as one of the most talented women artist to emerge from Tel Aviv in the 80's and describes her way of working: '...[she] in the 1980's developed a simultaneously expressionist and lyrical abstract style. She dips clothes in watery acrylic, and stretching, pulling, pushing, she marks the canvas with them, leaving streaks and traces of color. This technique, suggestive of domestic laundering and cleaning, creates a delicate range of transparencies and waves, which represent unconscious states of mind. (Gideon Ofrat, One Hundred Years of Art in Israel, Colorado and Oxford, p. 281).
