Additional engraved title, folding engraved map, and 13 engraved plates. Original brown cloth decorated in gilt and blind. Scattered foxing, a few pale spots to map, title and half-title toned, minor wear to extremities, spine a touch sunned. Provenance: Adare (ownership signature dated 1848). FIRST EDITION. Smet was a Jesuit missionary engaged with the Flathead tribe of the Rocky Mountains from 1840-43, and who ventured to Fort Vancouver, Oregon, in 1844.
