Notes

Sofia L. Zaklikovskaya studied under Pavel Filonov in the early 20υth century. Along with his other pupils, she participated in the illustration of ?Kalevala? and today, several of her pre-war paintings hang in the State Russian Museum and the Central Manezh Exhibition Hall in St. Petersburg, as well as the Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art. During the war, she and her family moved to Komsomolsk on the Amur where she completed the decoration of the ceiling of the Komsomol House of Culture. Over time, she gave up painting in the style of the Filonov School, and pursued her passion of landscapes, still lifes and interiors. This piece is exemplary of her preferred genre, and still retains the influence of Filonov?s poetically detailed works.
