Sook Jin Jo received her MFA from Honk Ik University, Seoul, in 1985 and had her first one-person exhibition at the Kwan Hoon Gallery, Seoul, that same year using expressionistic constructions of new, old and abandoned plywood that sought to explore the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Jo received her second MFA from the Pratt Institute, New York, in 1991. She had one-person exhibitions at the O. K. Harris Gallery, New York, between 1990 and 1993, 1996, 2001, 2002 and 2004, and in "Wishing Worlds/We are All in One" at the University of Texas, El Paso, in 2004.

Jo's work is in the collection of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, the Erie Museum of Art, Pennsylvania, the Young Un Museum of Contemporary Art, Kyoungki-Do, Korea, the Housatonic Museum of Art in Westport, Connecticut and the Martin Z. Margulies Collection, Miami. Jo lives and works in New York.
