Item Overview

Description

SPARMANN, KARL CHRISTIAN
1805 Hintermauer (Meißen) - 1864 Dresden

Walbach in Moonlight. Oil on paper. Laid down on canvas. 31 x 24cm. Monogrammed right of centre: C. Sp.. Framed.

Confirmation of authenticity by Dr. Neidhardt, Dresden, dated October 2013.

Neidhardt states (owtte) that the present painting is presumably an early work, created ca. 1827/28. Sparmann's painting was influenced by Dahl under whom he was a student in 1822/24. Dahl in turn had been strongly influenced by Caspar David Friedrich. His art can be considered a variation of the fine poetic style of Dresden Romanticism which he expresses in combination with an unsentimental understanding of realism and an accomplished technique.

We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Neidhardt for his kind support.
